Description:
Like their bantam cousins, Brahmas are gentle sweeties with feathered legs and feet and profuse, fluffy feathering. Developed in the United States, these birds were bred for meat production, though the hens lay relatively decently and are great setters and mothers. This fancy breed of chicken makes a great pet for its quiet and tame nature, tolerance to the cold, huggability and sheer chic-ness!
Because Brahmas have a large body size, they're considered to be a good dual purpose breed, too!

She looks healthy and happy. Pretty hen.

We are happy to hear that your baby is doing well and is a beauty as we expected! Buff Brahma chickens are known to be "late bloomers" and typically start laying eggs when they are between six to seven months old. She should start to lay soon but if she does not, please let us know. Due to the time of year, if she goes into a molt, this may delay the beginning of production as well. We look forward to helping you with any questions or concerns and hope you will let us know. We are here to help!

Baby Chicks: Buff Brahma Female
a bit more shy than I'd hoped so far.
Reply:
The Buff Brahma have a reputation for being a quiet and tame breed so it is not too surprising that your little one may be a bit shy right now. To encourage bonding, try picking her up from underneath instead of approaching from the top as due to being a prey animal they are a little skittish when approached from above. Treats are also a great way to bribe them to become cuddle bugs! My Pet Chicken has a great number of treats to use as well as little toys that you can use to entice them. You can also offer a bit of wet crumbles or use some scrambled eggs as a treat offering as well. Please let us know any time if you have any questions, we are happy to help!

This is it folks. In my 10 years of raising hens I have never met a more human friendly bird. Gentle, curious, sweet, she followed us everywhere even though she had other hens she could have hung out with. She wasn't even afraid to stand up to my twenty-five pound cocker spaniel if he snuck out. This breed, in my experience is the perfect starter bird for first time hen keepers, and while I can't guarantee your girl will be like mine, generally I have found that chickens of the same breed keep the same general disposition. Her colors and pattern are gorgeous too.

Jokgu, our Brahma and Marshmallow the Silkie are amazing! Jokgu is named after Jokgu from TCC, but our Jokgu is part of iSpotBroodySilkies, Two Polish Hens, and Hen House Drama. Our chickens are beautiful hens who lay brown, white and blue eggs. The goal for iSpotBroodySilkies is to preserve, educate, and care for chicken breeds like the beautiful Brahma

I've had my little Cynthia for about 6 years now and she shows no sign of slowing down her antics any time soon! This chicken is so curious and a joy to watch. She's talkative, but doesn't screech like other hens of ours and has never been aggressive or particularly broody. This is absolutely my favorite breed and I would recommend them to anyone that wants a long lasting layer.
