Description:
Add one of these unique White Crested Black Polish chickens to your backyard chicken flock. This ornamental chicken breed is one of our favorites here at My Pet Chicken due to its silly personality.
Polish chickens are a very special and unique breed of chicken with their huge bouffant crest of feathers and v-shaped comb. They are tame, but their behavior can be a bit wacky since their crest limits their vision. When in a flock with more aggressive breeds, Polish chickens will tend to be on the low end of the pecking order. Egg laying is varied in this breed - some lay well and some very poorly. In short, Polish are sweet, beautiful exhibition birds and can be good layers in the backyard flock, but they're not reliable. Please note that our flocks produce a mix of bearded and non-bearded Polish.

Baby Chicks: White Crested Black Polish Female
Things I wish I knew, you need to buy multiple of this breed. We purchase one in a mixed group, and she is a culture of one. Very quirky breed. Reminds me of Hei hei from Moana. My Pet Chicken great as always.

Thank you for your review! Polish chickens definitely have their own unique personalities—your description of her as a “culture of one” is spot on! They really do thrive with their own kind, so adding a Polish buddy can sometimes help them feel more at home in a mixed flock. Another trick to help them integrate with others is to cut the feathers into "bangs," so they can have better vision and see the others!

My wheaten marans is the sweetest girl! She's our biggest hen and the quiet leader in our flock, and she has the softest feathers. She likes to be held and snuggled. Watch for broken blood feathers in their feathered legs! I check mine every day, since she's had a few. My marans isn't laying yet, but I am looking forward to that day.

Perfect Afro as a chick. Pretty quite a mild mannered, a tiny but skittish but getting less so by the day.

We enjoy hearing that your little polish baby is fitting in nicely in her new home! Polish chickens are generally known to be calm, gentle, friendly, and active birds. Because of their large crests, they sometimes may seem to be easily surprised or frightened but it sounds like she is getting used to her new surroundings and will do quite well with her flock mates. Some polish flock keepers will actually put their little floppy top feathers in a little pony tail on the top of their heads when they get older :-) Please let us know if we can answer any questions or concerns as My Pet Chicken is here for our fellow flock keepers.
