Automatic door open/close options
This automatic door provides two options for setting open and close times: an easy-to-use programmable timer, and an built-in light (LUX) sensor. You can choose between the manual programming option, or using the light sensor to trigger your door open/close times. You can even designate how sensitive you want your light sensor to be. The integrated LCD screen has a simple user interface and large buttons to ensure ease of use, even with gloves on. And there's a complete, step-by-step video with setup instructions (see below).

Premium vs Extreme
This door opener is simple to install and operate and is perfect for smaller and lightweight coops or runs. If you've got a starter chicken coop model, this is the door for you! Don't worry, though: though this is the lightest model we carry, it has all the features of our heavier model, the Extreme Automatic Door. The only difference is the Extreme door motor can lift up to 8lbs, making it ideal for larger, heavier doors and commercial coops and for extreme climates where ice build-up may be an issue. (The Premium door can lift up to 2.2lbs.)
Power with batteries or plug it in
Four AA batteries, included with your purchase, will keep your door in operation for up to six months! A low battery warning will give you plenty of notice when you need to change them out. If you'd rather not hassle with batteries, there's a USB port so you can supply electricity. (Cables not included.)How does it work?
Simply fix the unit to the outside of your chicken coop with the fittings provided, connect the cord to the coop door that's enclosed, set the timer, and you're done!Other automatic door features

ChickenGuard Extreme Automatic Chicken Door
This works great for about a month. Good night started having issues where it would say the battery was running out and it wouldn’t open the door even though I just replace the battery. This happened 506 times. And then about 10 months after purchase it’s just stopped working entirely

The chicken guard did not work. So I contacted the company in England and they were quick to respond. I have received a new mechanism which due to the weather I have yet to install. We will see if this one work.

ChickenGuard Premium Automatic Chicken Door
Unfortunately, the door can not be relied on. Sometimes it opens, sometimes it closes, but it's not consistent. When it stops working an error message often pops up that it needs to be recalibrated. When I do that it works for about a day and then ceases to be reliable again.

For the plastic coupe that I had purchased this door was highly recommended on the website. Unfortunately the way that coop door is set up the outer rim of the door wouldn't sit flat so I ended up having to fabricate wood on the sides to hold everything together.

ChickenGuard Premium Automatic Chicken Door
My husband and I installed the chicken door in about an hour. It has been working very well, opening at sunrise and closing at sundown, for about a month. We do not yet know how long the batteries will last. Our chickens learned to use the door quickly. It’s especially nice to not worry about closing the door in the evenings.

The system seemed easy to install and of good quality. I did return it as the door size is only 10 inches and would not fit over the 14 inch door we have.

ChickenGuard Extreme Automatic Chicken Door
Setup was easy. Nice to have an automatic opener/closer. However, the door gets messed up at least once a week. Likely user error or could be the chickens bumping it in the morning when the door is opening and they’re anxious to get out. Hopefully can figure it out soon.

ChickenGuard Premium Automatic Chicken Door
This unit seemed good at first. I wasn't happy with how well the locking mechanism worked but all in all I appreciated having the door open and shut. As I've used it, it repeatedly but intermittently won't shut at night or won't open in the morning. I'm fortunate that my chickens are in a fully enclosed pen that is safe even when the door doesn't shut but in another circumstance this would be the literal death of my animals. I have to go check this every night and every morning. And when the power isn't working, there is no easy way to open it which wouldn't be a problem if not for how often it runs out of batteries when it gets stuck - apparently running the motor endlessly? It has definitely been more trouble than it is worth.

Being retired, it is very nice to not have to set an alarm to make sure I am up in time to let the chickens out. In addition, I have several forgotten to close the coop up at night and this wonderful device eliminates that problem as well. No problems going on vacation now either. The product is not difficult to program. The timer is easily set and the instructions are very clear. Installation was quite simple and we had no difficulties removing the old door and putting the new door in. We had to make the opening smaller because this door is quite a big smaller. I was worried that my huge Brahma would not fit through the door, however there has been no problem with her going in and out. The locking feature on the door is such a genius invention.., no worries about any critters lifting up the door while my sweet girls are sleeping! I cannot recommend this product enough. My Pet Chicken had this cheaper than anywhere else online!

setup and install were simple. A few screws here and there. It fit perfect in the opening I already had. The provided rails have to be put in pretty much exactly even spacing and alignment, otherwise the door will bind. That's kind of understandable. What is frustrating is the battery life. Was sold on up to 6 months, I realistically thought it would be 3 months. Turns out it was 3 weeks tops. Replaced with brand new Duracell about 2 weeks ago, and the red light is already staying on indicating low battery. I've had to recalibrate the door more times than the door worked overnight. I'm very nervous for the coming winter and how batteries are going to last in the cold. I did contact their customer support and I was told they would be sending me a "mains" power supply that would hook up to the USB port at the bottom. Not sure if that will work or what it is, but I assume its a plug in to 120v power. I may just have to revert to my old wood door and walk out every morning and evening to open/close it if this can't keep power.

I built my coop with the idea that this is the type of door I would have and it has not disappointed. Not all brands have the some opening FYI. Was going to get a cheaper kind but a video review changed my mind and I spent more for this one. Easy to set up. HOWEVER...there a 4 batteries that come with it so you must pull the entire battery compartment out to access both sides. Instructions don’t mention this and I thought mine was broken. The 4 batteries should have been an indicator, sadly no! A nice person at the company walked me through some troubleshooting and viola! Sturdy door, materials and it locks once it’s at the bottom. After a few timing adjustments the chickens have always been in at night. Many settings available and I have the unit installed on the inside of the coop and works great. It is slow enough to open and close that you don’t have to worry it catching a chicken. Expect years of worry-free coop door access.
