Description:
Cream Legbars are friendly, easily handled, good layers, and are one of the most highly sought-after—and rarest—breeds in this country. Cream Legbar eggs are a beautiful blue, ranging from light blue to light turquoise. And while their eggs aren't jumbo, they lay prolifically.
Legbars are wonderful foragers and love to be outside. If you like to go a-hunting for your eggs, this is the breed for you, because for some odd reason, laying outdoors is their favorite. Legbars do well avoiding predators in a free-range environment, although they can easily adapt to small yards and runs, too. Finally, Cream Legbars are fun looking, with unusual little crests tucked behind floppy combs, looking something like they're wearing berets accented with flowers--very cool!
Since Cream Legbars are "autosexing," which means the males and females look different at hatch, sexing can be done with virtually 100% certainty.

Baby Chicks: Cream Legbar Female
Highly underrated breed for folks keeping chickens as pets. So well mannered and docile in a mixed flock. We have owned 2 so far, and both we incredible with children, with one enjoying the attention and becoming a full lap chicken. And the blue eggs brighten up the basket.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Cream Legbars really are a hidden gem! it's wonderful to hear how well-mannered and friendly yours have been, especially with children. A lap chicken that also lays beautiful blue eggs? Always a keeper!
We love that you’ve had such a great experience with this breed, and we couldn’t agree more—they deserve more recognition! Thanks for choosing My Pet Chicken, and happy egg collecting!

Baby Chicks: Cream Legbar Female
Bought 5 female and 2 male cream legbar 2 years ago. These are some of my favorite chickens. Good layers and do well with my mixed free range flock. Hatched some off last summer. Didn’t get as good hatching rate as with white or brown eggs but saved lot of feed with the auto sex though. Do you think I should up incubation by .5 to 100 since the blue bloom goes plumb through the shell?

Thank you for reaching out. So I do believe the issue with hatching here does not have to do with the color of the egg which is simply just a pigment added by the hen during her laying process. I do believe this may more to do with the breed itself. Cream legbars or legbars in general are know to be on the high strung side. Things like weather change or just being moved can affect they way they lay and how the males perform. It could also be how often the eggs are collect and where the nesting boxes are. If you are collecting at the end of the day vs every few days, the weather conditions can affect the eggs dramatically. The area where there coop is could be hotter, colder, drafty.... so many things could be different compared to another coop or the area each is laying. The other thing that could be affecting your hatch rate is the age of the hens. At 2 years old though I can not imagine this being the case as they are in their prime laying age. I have multiple blue layers that I incubate their eggs and I do notice my legbars lay a lot but have the worst fertility. The girls are too busy foraging and being inquisitive to even bother with my male. Although this is quite a pickle when trying to incubate, I would not change hatching parameters on chicken eggs due to the color of the egg. I would only change parameters on specific breeds that require more detailed or elevated parameters.

Baby Chicks: Cream Legbar Female
Two of the seven chickens did not survive the shipment. The silked white easter egger and the cream legbar. Now this might be the post offices fault, or it could be mypetchickens fault, but they were shipped to my house and not the post office. It was a cold day that the were dropped off at my doorstep so they got too cold to survive and thrive. I was able to warm up the others quickly because I could see their lethargy as well. I was refunded the cost of the two that passed, but I will have to pay shipping again if I order replacements. This was a shipping error with a tragic result so having to pay for shipping again on this loss is poor business practices in my opinion. I have never lost a chick in transport from other hatcheries and this is my first time using my pet chicken.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues and loss you experienced with your order. While we're glad we could provide a refund, we understand it doesn't replace the chicks you were expecting. We do advise USPS to call upon arrival so that you have the opportunity to pick them up and I'm sorry that those instructions were missed. We're continuously looking for ways to improve safety in shipping for our feathered friends and your feedback is valuable to us. You may find our blog post helpful for future orders, as it explains how the post office should call for pick up at their location rather than completing a home delivery. Here is the link to that article: How will I know that my chicks have arrived at the post office? If you have any further concerns, please reach out to us.
