Description:
Silver Laced Wyandottes are the original Wyandotte variety, and a wonderful example of American breeding. They are beautiful and productive.
Wyandottes are a favorite amongst backyard flock owners for their dependable egg laying, easygoing nature and cold-hardiness. Each feather is silvery white edged in beetle black, similar to Silver Sebrights. The hens look as if they're ladies dressed for a fancy ball! The Wyandotte roosters have the same laced feathers, but their hackles and capes are composed of glimmering silver, like a suit of armor. (We think roosters should be named after the Knights of the Round Table!)
Wyandottes have a heavy body, which makes them a great dual purpose choice, and small rose comb, which makes them perfect for cold climates because they are not prone to frostbite. The hens are hardy, energetic, and faithful layers and are recommended as one of the best breeds for beginners.

They were all so adorable when they arrived. Very active and bright. The 1 and only issue came later as they aged. They will be 4months old in a few days. 1 of my 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes -F (I got 5 chicks total) was male. I was holding out hope that she was just a bearded girl but... the saddle feathers started coming in a couple weeks ago and I had to call it. A boy. He has been pretty quiet so far. I still give 5 stars cuz i know this happens and I was happy with the time I've spent with all of them even if 1 will be for a shorter time than the others. This was my first order and won't be my last. Lol

While we are happy to hear that your little ones are doing so well, we were so very sorry to read that you suspect a sexing error on your order! We offer a live bird sexing error guarantee and we will refund you for any bird that has been incorrectly sexed, provided we are notified within the appropriate time frames. For breeds except silkies, that is between 14 to 22 weeks of the original ship date. Silkies take a bit longer to mature so they get a few more weeks and have until 19-30 from their ship date. We have reached out to you directly about your sexing error and look forward to do all we can to make up for any mistake.

Of the four I ordered, one failed to thrive. She was born with her tongue sticking out of the side of her beak. She could drink, but could not eat. The others began picking at her tongue, so I separated her, but she didn't make it. Of the 4 breeds I ordered, the wyandottes seem to be the least clever, but that may change with age and development.

This is such a striking bird! It takes a long time for the colors to really develop all the way but it's worth the wait! Good layers, fantastic in cold weather, but they also tolerate my NC humidity and heat in Summer without issue so if you dont live somewhere with 110 degree summers (like the middle of the desert) and you have shade for your birds you can probably keep these without too much fuss! I had one several years ago and bought two with this recent order to replace the one we lost about two years ago. Previous hens eggs were Large and a light tan to almost pinkish tint. would recommend!

She was the littlest chick in the box, and she grew a little slowly the first few weeks but she definitely didn’t stay little! She is a chunk and definitely the widest hen in our flock lol! She’s very cute. She definitely outweighs our other dual purpose and layer breeds, but luckily for everyone else she doesn’t throw her weight around. Because she is such a chunk, I worried about her in the heat, but so far she is handling summer in Arizona surprisingly well. She is mid to top of the pecking order, and went through a short period of slightly more pushy behavior with her flock mates the week she started laying (20 weeks old), but that didn’t last. Easy going is definitely her default. She doesn’t particularly like being picked up, but she is overall very easy to handle and not aloof or skittish. Plus, this breed is beautiful!

I’m only listing three stars because only one of the three chicks of this variety survived past the third day? That being said, it could’ve totally been a fluke on my end! I love sourcing my chicks from this company. But all the other chicks are fine, they were all put under two mamas the first night and shipped in one day which really set them up for success. Just thought it was odd how it was the same variety who died, and I saw with the second one she seemed a little out of it the day before she died. Wanted to report it in case others have experienced this, would love company feedback if it’s just me. :) Overall 5 stars for the company though!

Of all the chicks we received from My Pet Chicken, our little Silver laced Wyandotte is the most rambunctious! She is so funny and so amazing to be around - I’ve never had a chick be so playful! She will chase our hands and consistently comes out of the brooder first to hop into our hand and fall asleep, then wake up and run around the room flapping her little wings. She’s so unique and while the other chicks are certainly growing into their own personalities, Sequoia the SLW has been really confident from the very beginning. I think this is the start of a very special friendship :) We’re so excited to watch them all grow!
