Description:
Plymouth Rocks are one of the most popular dual-purpose chickens on small farms today. Aside from the Barred and White Rocks, other plumages are relatively rare. The Silver Penciled is especially lovely: the feathers are a field of white with elegant black penciling. It is similar in appearance to silver laced plumage in some ways, but the penciling has double fine black lines on each feather as if they're covered in calligraphy.
Rocks are friendly, great layers of large brown eggs and able to withstand cold weather quite nicely. Though they tolerate confinement, they're most happy when they get to range freely.

Questions
Baby Chicks: Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock Female
I received my silver penciled plymouth rock in a flock with five other chicks. During the first few days, my tiniest chick was crying a lot and not eating much, so I offered all of them some sugar water. Everybody has been fine ever since!

Thank you for letting us know how your babies are doing and we are so happy to hear your little one has settled in well! Sometimes their journey can be a bit stressful and it may take a day or two for them to calm down and begin to enjoy their new home. The sugar water is a great way to boost their energy and help them recover! Your babies are so cute!!

She is a bit flighty but is sweet and lays small pink eggs. Goes broody more than most of my chickens but is easy to break.

Baby Chicks: Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock Female
I got 2 rocks. 1 boy 1 girl. They both didn't do well. I believe they need more time than other chicks. They stayed under the heat plate ALOT so they wasn't eating and growing at the pace of the other chicks. I kept them in the brooder for 4 to 5 weeks and then transitioned them to the big coop that I built for them. The girl eventually started eating more and staying out more but the boy died. The boy had, had pasty butt a couple times but most likely died of not eating enough. He didn't grow much more that his beginner chick size while the other chicks were 3 times bigger than him. Food and water was in close range but he just didn't do well. Not mypetchickens fault. Stuff just happens.

Baby Chicks: Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock Female
My chick is about 2 months old. In the beginning I was worried. This chick was always under the heat plate and not growing as fast as other chicks in the brooder. Thankful she pulled herself together and is doing great. She's the smallest but alive and thriving. Very pretty chicken.

Thank you Cordelia for leaving a review on your Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock. Some chicks do take a little longer to grow. We are so glad she caught up and is doing well! Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks are especially lovely.

I love these hens because they look like they have a script written all over their feathers. Unfortunately, they are a more docile breed and get picked on a bit by my more aggressive hens. Now that I have more of them, they tend to hang together and overall they are looking better. They are very shy and reluctant to come close to humans unless they see that treats are being given.

Thank you for taking the time to review the Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock babies! They can be one of the more docile breeds and may have been a little shy after being picked on a bit from your other hens but will most likely become more friendly - with the usual bribe of treats :-) Please let My Pet Chicken know if you would like to have some pointers on how to bring these little ones out of their shyness. We are here to help!

Baby Chicks: Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock Female
I'm a first-time chicken mom so I wanted to wait a few weeks before I gave a review on my girls. They are 4 weeks old now and doing well. Appreciate the fast friendly service from MPC. My favorite chick by far is the Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock. She is beautiful and sweet and loves attention. She doesn't seem to be afraid of humans and she is very curious. She is not a bully, but she will stand her ground if any other chicks get too bossy. Very impressed with this breed, wish I had ordered more. Thanks MPC!

Baby Chicks: Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock Female
I ordered two of these girls. Both are more shy than the rest of the flock and one of the two is much smaller than the rest (maybe a runt?). She’s not as spry as the rest so I’m watching her closely praying she makes it!

Cute little peeping, fluffy chicks. These chicks have a chipmunk color on their backs. The chicks arrived in a nice box that was labeled as live animals. Box had bedding and a heating pad. All chicks arrived healthy and in great condition.

I like variety and always order multiple breeds when I order baby chicks. I asked for a hen, and it is the first time I ever got a rooster by mistake. I didn’t even ask for a refund because he is an amazingly beautiful bird. He is not aggressive and has been a delightful addition to my flock. He is just as beautiful as the picture and assimilated into my flock of year old hens without a problem. Thank you!!

I have a Heritage Barred Rock and several Cuckoo Marans, and the feathering on my Silver Pencil pullet is just incomparable. She is magnificent! She is sweet and curious, and her feathering is even fancier than her Silver Laced sister! This is a wonderful breed!

Baby Chicks: Silver Penciled Plymouth Rock Female
I thought she'd be like the barred plymouth rocks, I had read they were able to handle warmer climates. Unfortunately this girl is so fluffy, she's the first to start panting when it gets a little warm out. Really concerned she'll end up dying of heat stroke even with all the things I do to cool off the run- between the shade and the cold water and cold treats, she's always panting. She's low on the pecking order, but she does like to come over to me and talk to me. I'm not sure what she's trying to say, but I imagine she is complaining to the management about how hot it is. Or how the other girls wouldn't let her at the snacks. I think this breed would be better suited to colder climates. I wouldn't get it again since I live in Florida. But so so so pretty and soft.
